illy, the leading brand in the premium coffee market, presents a limited special edition of the classic 250g espresso tin. A black and white photograph by the Brazilian artist, Sebastião Salgado, adorns the collectors’ item. The image on the tin shows coffee growers at a Brazilian coffee plantation during the harvest. If the transparent sleeve is removed, coffee lovers have an original work of art. 

The photograph was created as part of the “In Principio” project (English:  “At the start”), which was launched by illycaffè in 2002 in collaboration with Salgado. The aim of this photographic journey through Brazil, India, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Colombia is to highlight the history, culture and traditions of the coffee growers.

As part of this year’s celebrations of the 75-year anniversary of illycaffè, the largest Salgado exhibition ever to be held in Germany will take place.  From 6th September to 5th October 2008, selected black and white photographs from the “In Principio“ project will be on display in the exhibition halls of the C/O Berlin (Postfuhramt).
